Singapore VS Liverpool – This is Anfield?
Thanks to the KuKuNehNeh(KKNN) and her colleague, we managed to secure two tickets to catch Singapore National Team VS Liverpool on their pre-season Asian tour. It was held at the Kallang National Stadium which by the way was said to be up for demolition events ago.
We drove down to Kallang a good 2 hours before the match, hoping to beat the crowd and take our time to have our dinner but to our amazement, the area around the stadium was already filled with people dressed in Liverpool garb. As we sat in the stadium and watch the crowd flow in and take the seats around the stadium, I begun to wonder if any one soul was actually here to support their own country, Singapore.
A proud fan holding the Liverpool emblem
Kallang Stadium was almost packed to the brim
"Alonso Stay!" - The same sentiments from fans all around the world
Teams marching in
The Liverpool fans that turned up that day was nothing short of amazing. I haven’t been to Anfield ever but if I do not ever go there, this would probably be the closest experience I would ever have. The ‘Kop end’ was magnificent as there were chanting and singing everything Liverpool from the start till the end.
Although I did felt that the atmosphere is not as electrifying as a national game against a team like Malaysia or Thailand. I could sense the a slight struggle between the support for a club they love with loyalty to Singapore.
Case in point...
By the way, KKNN is a Manchester United fan and she willingly accompanied me and dressed up in my Liverpool jersey to fit into the crowd. But apparently, such common sense doesn’t seem to apply to everyone.
THIS IS ANFIELD MOTHERF**KER!
Yup, your eyes are not deceiving you nor is this an edited picture. A bloody idiot dressed in Manchester United’s jersey with the name “Owen” printed on his back strolled down the steps of Kallang for a LIVERPOOL VS Singapore match with jeers and boos from the LIVERPOOL fans and sat himself down amongst LIVERPOOL fans and then proceeded to stand up and wave around while taunting the rowdy army of LIVERPOOL fans.
Yep! He sat there throughout the game unharmed. Only in Singapore I say! Try doing that in England and see what happens to an idiot like that.
Of course idiots come in pairs and we had one guy sitting in front of KKNN who bestowed this ‘fabulous’ view for us throughout the match.
You might say that he was sitting down and was pretty much harmless unless she had a thing for male butt cleavages but right before any exciting goal mouth situation, he would prematurely stand up waving his arms frantically and thus making KKNN miss the action and nothing to watch but his ass.
And her reasoning for not standing up when it happens? She didn’t want to block the view of the people sitting behind her. WAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH!!! Poor KKNN…
Not a pretty match to look at but the Liverpool fans that turned up made my day!

Tough Surviving Without a PC
I came home after a weekend with KuKuNehNeh to find that my PC screen was displaying the Matrix.
Actually, it would have been great if it was really displaying the Matrix and not because of a failing graphics card or a motherboard. I was actually half hoping for Neo or Morpheus to crawl out of my screen Sadako style and offer me the red or the blue pill.
I am trying to get my hands on some hardware before I can isolate the problem and while the PC was rendered useless, I was practically handicapped since yesterday.
While the iPhone provides a very good source of entertainment and a passable web experience, I could not carry out any other task that I do so regularly on the PC.
I really got to solve my ‘Matrix’ woes before I start twitching uncontrollably and stare into the screen. Don’t want my mother checking me into rehab.

Google Latitude is another interesting project by the company and it is basically a location based service that allows users to update their whereabouts through their GPS equipped phones like the Symbian S60s, Blackberry, Android and now the iPhone.
What’s lacking in the release of Google Latitude for the iPhone is that unlike the other mobile devices which has a native app, the iPhone has to settle for a web app that is accessed by pointing your Safari browsers to www.google.com/latitude. What this means for the iPhone user is that your location cannot be updated constantly through a running background application and thus puts a dent in the full voyeuristic capabilities of Google Latitude.
Blame Apple for that as rumours has it that Apple disapproved of the iPhone app that Google made citing the conflicting capabilities of Latitude VS Google Maps as the reason.
But it’s still fun to be able to use Google Latitude to update my location on the iPhone and check out if any of my friends are nearby.
KuKuNehNeh doesn’t own a compatible phone but there are dangers of her checking out my whereabouts if she decides to add the Google Latitude gadget to iGoogle.
Disclaimer: Of course I had no reason to be in Geylang! Google Latitude allows users to manually set their location for users without a GPS. Really!

Registration for Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2009 is Now Open!
The running event of the year, the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2009, has been open for registration since the 16th July and early birds who register during this period till the 5th of August will get to enjoy discounts for the registration fees!
Wow~! 3 variations of the word ‘register’ in the sentence above and it doesn’t take a genius to guess the purpose of this post is to convince YOU to register!
Take the chance to register for a race so that you’ll find a valid excuse to put on your running shoes and get out there to sweat it out!
Well, if you are not as crazy as the few of us going for the full marathon, there are other categories to consider like the half-marathon, 10km, team races or even the 750m kids dash if you are 13 years of age and below.
Here is the breakdown of the fees involved.
And do consider registering yourself as a charity runner by joining their “Run for a Cause” (RFAC) program whereby you can help raise funds through a pledge card or an online donation portal to either of the 3 identified charities or all of them. The 3 charities are:
1. Bukit Ho Swee Family Service Centre
- a community-based focal point of family resources that promotes and strengthens the well-being of families in distress.
2. Lions Befrienders
- reaches out to lonely senior citizens with limited or no family support, to help dignifying and enhance the quality of their golden years.
3. Rainbow Centre Yishun Park School
- is a place where children with autism and multiple disabilities are respected and provided with specialised curriculum and services to develop their full potential.
Not that it is important if your motive is to help raise funds but the top 500 RFAC participants who raised more than $300 will be waived for their registration fees and be given a limited edition RFAC shirt.
I have yet to decide which charity to aid but I do hope that you guys will at least help to donate in the event that you do not wish to take part in the running.
See you on the 6th of December 2009!
