Time flies and Uno is now a month old! The cute little baby lovebird has grown so rapidly that I often tell KuKuNehNeh that I will wake up to see an ostrich sized lovebird soon.
Watch the videos below to check out the difference in size of a 15 day old Uno and a 28 day old Uno!
Amazing right? He is starting to nibble on seeds on his own and hopefully he’ll be fully weaned real quick.

No prizes for guessing who is BLUEy and who is GREENbean
I haven’t been updating on the lovebirds and so to summarize. Bluey has recovered from her toe injury and has been doing well. Greenbean proved that perseverance worked and he finally won Bluey’s heart (the other side of the story is that Bluey got horny and gave in) and they actually started a family… or at least tried to. Bluey laid 4 eggs in total but only 1 egg managed to hatch and what better to name the little lovebird than Uno!
Uno is here in my house this week because she is just short of 3 weeks old and needs to be hand fed 4-5 times a day to ensure that her cut tummy is satisfied and she becomes tame from all the human handling.
Hi! I'm Uno and I'm 3 weeks old!
The picture above either makes people squeal in delight or disgust so bear with me if you belong to the latter group.
It is by no means an easy feat to hand feed baby lovebirds with her being so young. Bluey was already close to 4 weeks old when we got her and we only need to feed her 2 times a day. Uno was robbed extracted from the nest at 14 days old and needs to be fed 5-6 times a day. Her baby formula has to be also at the right temperature at 41 to 42°C. Too cold and she’ll refuse to eat it; too hot and I’ll cook her inside out.
Uno is quite travelled for her young age and has been staying at Ang Mo Kio, went to Rasa Sentosa Resort for a stay over the weekend and is now residing at Jurong West for the week. So to make her feel more at home, I made a little tent for her.
The strand of millet is to encourage her to wean.
Yup. Uno has a tent in her tank.
Like the last time when I had Bluey over for 4 days, I just hope I keep little Uno alive so that KuKuNehNeh keeps me alive.
HUAT AHHHHH!!!!
Check Uno’s growth process at KuKuNehNeh’s blog.
Day 1
Day 4
Day 9
Day 14
Uno grows almost as fast as a magic bean sprout!

KKNN has been clamoring for a baby Lovebird and it didn’t help that there wasn’t any stock for the creatures at Goodwill Birds Trading when we visited the popular and highly rated shop in December. They were plenty of beautiful adult Lovebirds there but she only wanted baby ones because she wants the Lovebird as a pet; and according to one of the friendly workers there, they don’t have an estimated time when they would get them because the baby Lovebirds come from their customers.
KKNN spent the week after moping at not being able to buy the bird and we resorted to calling up Goodwill Birds Trading every other day to check and also calling up other shops to check if they had any Lovebirds but to no avail. I had to appease her by offering to color my bird in the shades of a Lovebird.
Of course I didn't color my bird.... :p
I am quite the animal lover but I have never had the thought of having a bird as a pet whereas she had 3 chickens as pets before. My thinking is that cats/dogs make better pets as one would be able to walk them out without worrying if they are on the wrong end of the food chain and having them eaten up. I also feel that dogs/cats are more fun to play with considering their size and intelligence. But after reading more about the Lovebirds online through sites like Wikipedia, my perception of having a Lovebird as a pet has changed.
Here are some interesting facts:
- They are actually miniature parrots
- 8 out of 9 species originate from Africa
- They are very affectionate and social creatures
- They live as long as 10-15 years
- They have the intelligence of a 3 to 4-year-old child
- They can be toilet trained and be taught how to speak
Just last Saturday, we took a chance and went down to Goodwill Birds Trading and there was a dozen or so baby Lovebirds! KKNN was super elated and was super confused on which one of them to choose especially since the baby Lovebirds do not have fully grown feathers and it’s hard to tell how they will look like when older. We settled on a Lovebird after awhile and brought it back home with some supplies.
Introducing….. (for the lack of an imagination)…..
BLUEY!!!
Ain’t Bluey super duper cute! We spent a lot time cuddling him, playing with him and even more just staring at him over the weekend.
For all the ‘hims’ that I have used, we actually do not know Bluey’s gender because of it’s age. KKNN think Bluey is a girl and I think Bluey is a boy but gay.
What say you? Make a guess!
